Alright, justneedanaccount. I have to reply to you this way because for some inexplicable reason, your askbox became unavailable shortly after I received this. I am assuming it was an untimely coincidence and not really an attempt to prevent me from replying to you.
First of all, it doesn’t matter where or how you find an art on the internet. It also doesn’t matter how pretty you think it is and how much you want your followers to see it. You should not, under any circumstances, post an art without crediting its artist. It doesn’t belong to you and by doing so you are only influencing your own fandom negatively by spreading unsourced artwork and discouraging your own artists from producing new fanarts. 98 times out of 100, using SauceNao and Google Image Search will be more than enough in helping you track the source of any given art, if you are not too lazy to spare a minute of your time before you rush to post the ‘juicy art’ you found and get a couple of hundred notes on it. If you can’t find it, then you shouldn’t post it anyway because that means the art is most likely deleted by its own artist to prevent its spread. Or, you are dealing with a heavily edited art (which is another issue all in itself and you shouldn’t share those either since they are done without the artist’s permission).
Speaking of permissions, I said nothing to you about this in my first message because if you are so nonchalant about posting unsourced art and so indifferent towards what the artists want, it’s quite easy to picture how your response would be; but, you are not supposed to use / edit / reproduce ANY fanart you find ANYWHERE without the artist’s permission anyway. That’s it. Do you know why? Because it’s nothing short of stealing. You are taking their intellectual property which in MANY countries, are copyrighted to their owners the moment they produce it and you are using it without their knowledge and permission. The simple common sense of ‘asking for permission before you use something that doesn’t belong to you’ seems to escape a lot of people on the internet for the sheer reason that we are all anonymous here and what’s wrong with sharing a few pictures you found somewhere without credits anyway, right? Well sorry, no. You have to educate yourself and you have to respect the artists whose works you are exploiting to get more of those ‘beloved followers’ you have. You are not doing them a favor by sharing unsourced / unauthorized art with them. You are making them your accomplices.
I also cannot help but notice that you say I am not the first person to tell you this and yet, the rest of your message is pretty much you saying you’ll do what you want anyway. I am desperately hoping none of those messages sent to you before were sent by artists themselves and you weren’t responding them with the same attitude you have responded to me, which would be downright disrespectful.
In all, no, I am sorry, you cannot share anything without credits. No, where you find it doesn’t matter one bit. You are responsible for your own blog and what you share on it falls on you. And you can’t do the respecting artists thing half-assed. You either do, or you don’t. In the latter case, you’ll just be another blog I’ll add to my vendetta list. I will not tolerate anyone exploiting anyone’s work which you should be grateful for. I know most of these artists personally and have listened from them directly how hurt they are when they see these things happen. You don’t even have permission and yet you are complaining about having to credits artists. If you can’t handle the internet in an adult way, please step aside and reblog things instead until you grow up to an age you are able to do so.
